imageA stunning English Teapot by Burgess and Leigh, Geisha Chinoiserie pattern, C.1880′s-1890′s. This very regal looking teapot is in the unmistakable shape of a crown, impressing on you the elegance of its design. It has a rectangular oval shape with canted corners and an unusual projecting coronet addition at the top. The corners of the pot have a curving rococo look to them with a correspondingly ornate handle and lovely simulated scroll feet. The elegant matching lid has a pagoda shaped finial, completing the overall crown appearance as the crest.  The print decoration on this elegant teapot is as superb as its shape. Starting at the top with the lid, both imagesides are decorated with a pagoda style building with a path leading up to the door and pine trees in the background. Central on both sides of the pot itself is the serene figure of a Geisha girl holding a large round umbrella with a multitude of spokes radiating from its middle and displaying like a huge halo behind her head. She is dressed in a kimono and in her other hand she holds a jug. She is surrounded by tall foliage and just behind her you can see mountains and a body of water, apparently the place she has just visited to fill her jug.

Foliage and arabesques decorate most of the remaining areas of the teapot and lid. Highlighting each area of decoration are gold gilt line borders, acting as a frame for that particular display of beautiful transfer decoration. The spout and the handle are also covered with decor and gold framing. The work that went into creating this design and this teapot in general is really quite amazing. Will only post to Mainland UK destinations and by tracked and signed for delivery service.
