The Age of Innocence, Mezzotint by Samuel Cousins

The Age of Innocence dated 1874, a Second State Mezzotint Signed Artist’s Proof engraving by Samuel Cousins 1801-1887, he was one of the great engravers of the 19th century engraving plates of paintings after many eminent artists like Sir Joshua Reynolds.  This picture is thought to be of Lady Ann Spencer, the youngest daughter of the 4th Duke of Marlborough, which Sir Joshua Reynolds painted around 1788.   The Mezzotint is thought to be from a limited run of 275 Artist’s Proof’s issued and is signed in pencil in the margin Samuel Cousins and dated at the top 1874,  and bears the blind stamp of the Print sellers Association.  See Payment Options.   (D)041210
